Something I like about the phrase “all’s fair in love and war” is that it is really saying its opposite: nothing’s ever fair, “fair” doesn’t apply. You have to throw “fair” out the window because what you actually have to reckon with is the inevitability of harming people in these scenarios. Otherwise, you’re like a surgeon who prides yourself on never cutting people open—useless or else dishonest.
