I’m going to New York next month—the big concrete jungle that easy apples are made of, I think they call it—and since I am determined to see not one but two museum exhibits while out on the East Coast I’m building up “my stamina.”1 (One of the last times I went even taking short walks wiped me out so totally that I couldn’t do much the next day.) What this means in practice is biking about ten miles on a recumbent bike every day. Sometimes I get ambitious and go further, sometimes I wimp out and do fewer, but mostly we’re doing ten miles, or about thirty minutes.
I get extremely bored exercising. Nothing really works to get me through it except 1) somebody hovering over me all the time or 2) music. Not TV or audiobooks or podcasts or anything else. If I’m listening to a song I know it shapes the time.
